In Sewing Woman, objects (and bodies) are dropped as if by a conveyor belt on an endless pile of dummies. In Beautiful, figures with all manner of bizarre heads walk through the streets and step on anything they encounter, while a huge sack scoops the remains into a giant mush, creating new creatures. In The Glorious Table, boneless and ooze-like figures serve as workers in a factory. In SAN, we see a group of family members who bear no resemblance to each other. The father feeds his daughter, the daughter tears off her limbs, and her child picks them up again. WOO Jin has drawn these grotesque abstract figures for a decade, with a body of work that also includes video installations such as Play (2013) and Drum (2014). WOO replaces dialogue (and mouths) with movement, and creates sounds and rhythms instead of music. Once the leader and gong musician of an award-winning traditional folk music troupe, she has since become a VJ who creates playful interactions between music and moving images. From 2014, she traveled between Berlin and Krakow, building a freeform artistic career. She has since returned to Korea where she has begun to collect old stories. In her new body of work, she introduces us to a diversity of gods and spirits.
